Newcastle is a wonderful city that offers numerous attractions and bags of fun and culture. However, there are certain things to do that are typically Geordie that everyone growing up in the region will be reminiscing about as they read. When you visit Newcastle, try some of the activities below that will you give a true Geordie experience to enjoy as part of your stay. If you are looking for things to do in Newcastle, you’ve come to the right place and I strongly suggest you employ these to make use of an already wonderfully cheap city.

Explore the local coast

Head just outside of Newcastle to South Shields to get a view of the beautiful Coast found at the Tyneside. Next, take in the splendour of Sandhaven beach before taking the Shields Ferry across the Tyne to explore the historical sites on the coast of North Shields. Once you are done with the Spanish Battery and the Tynemouth Priory and Castle, there is no better place to grab dinner than Riley’s Fish Shack. The semi-portable fish and chip shop was given rave reviews by the Guardian’s Jay Rayner and is located on the beach looking out at the gorgeous King Edward’s Bay. The best way to spend an afternoon in Newcastle is unquestionably discovering the nearby coastline and ending up with a pint of English ale and locally sourced fish and chips.

Go for a night out

There is a reason as to why Newcastle is reliably voted year on year as one of the top night out destinations in England. The city offers a wide variety of quality nightclubs and bars whilst being coveted as one of the best value drinking destinations as well. To start the night, I recommend Madame Koo and its linked bar Florita’s. The two establishments offer delicious cocktails and eclectic, yet stylish aesthetics inspired by Asia and Florida. To dance the night away, the nightclub Digital must be your destination of choice. Ranked one of the best in the world, this Newcastle club is frequently played by an A-list cast of the world’s best DJs. For a more alternative dance experience, travel to the upstairs ‘attic’ nightclub The Cut to get a taste of Newcastle’s wide range of nights on offer.

Experience some of Newcastle’s live entertainment

The city boasts some of the best options for live entertainment that can be found in the country. Sage Gateshead has been touted as one of the best concert halls in the world and is a huge centre of music. Boasting a 26 room centre for music education, it is the perfect place to either watch or play music. Furthermore, the building itself is spectacular and free, so is well worth a potter around. Theatre lovers should head down to the Quayside to watch internationally acclaimed theatre that is put on at Live Theatre. Live Theatre is made up of Grade II listed buildings that contain modern amenities and even an outdoor performance area.

Newcastle is a vibrant, exciting city that offers an endless supply of activities for any prospective visitor. Try one of the activities above to gain an insight into living life as a Geordie and experiencing some of Newcastle’s less obvious delights.
